Billy Joel Announces Decision on Ticket Refunds After Abruptly Cancelling Tour

Iconic musician Billy Joel announced he’s canceled the rest of the stops on his current tour – 17 shows in total – due to a recent diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” a statement posted to social media read. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience,” Joel said in the statement, “and thank you for understanding.”

Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a brain disorder where excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain’s ventricles. “[It] can affect several brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement and more,” according to the Cleveland Clinic’s website. “The symptoms of NPH look very much like those of dementia, but NPH is sometimes reversible.”In March 2025 Joel postponed eight tour dates so that he could focus on recovering from recent surgery. A statement posted to his Instagram page at the time that he was set to “undergo physical therapy under the supervision of his doctors.”“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans,” Joel wrote, adding that he was “expected to make a full recovery” from the undisclosed medical condition.The 76-year-old made it clear those looking for a refund for their tickets won’t have to look too hard – unless they weren’t the original purchaser of the tickets.”You don’t need to take any action to receive your refund,” the statement read. “It will be automatically processed to back to the original payment used for the purchase.
